Join us for a performance and panel discussion event presented as part of the exhibition Of The Earth: Connections. Moderated by Shane Weeks, a recipient of the Indigenous Practice Studio (IPS) commission at the Queens Museum, this program will welcome Indigenous knowledge holders from various communities around the world to be in dialogue with one another. Presenters will focus on how their individual practices honor Indigenous to Earth through the spoken word, dance, and song. The event will close with a Q+A from the Audience.

of the earth: connections Indigenous Land Stewardship Talk

Join us for two talks on Indigenous land stewaardship by Shane Weeks and Mazorca Colectiva. Mazorca Colectiva members Luisa Fernanda Mojica, Jazmin Perez Fernandez, and Ana Puente Flores will open the event with a presentation on their ongoing peace Garden work in East Elmhurst, Queens, which is stewarded together with mothers, children through the Maestrxs Comunitarixs program, and other community volunteers.


Shane Weeks' lecture will follow to discuss the extensive history of Shinnecock stewardship practices as well as the currant land, plant, and animal stewardship efforts across the various Native communities of Long Island.
